ScrapCar.ca (“we”, “us”) buys scrap, junk and unwanted vehicles in Calgary and surrounding areas. This policy explains what personal information we collect through scrapcar.ca, how we use it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Quote requests and messages: your name, phone number, email address (optional), your vehicle’s year, make, model and condition, and the pickup location. This comes from our quote form, or from you calling, texting or emailing us.
- When we buy your vehicle: the details needed to complete the sale, such as proof of ownership, the vehicle identification number (VIN) and the name on the registration.
- Website data: pages visited, device and browser type, and approximate location, collected through cookies and Google Analytics.
How we use it
- To prepare your quote, contact you, arrange pickup and complete the purchase.
- To keep the records we need for vehicle purchases and accounting.
- To understand how people use the website so we can improve it.
We do not sell your personal information, and we don’t use it for unrelated marketing.
Who we share it with
- Our pickup drivers, who need your address and phone number to collect the vehicle.
- Companies that run our website, email and analytics (such as our web host and Google), only as needed to provide those services.
- Government agencies or law enforcement when the law requires it.
Cookies and analytics
This website uses cookies, including Google Analytics, to measure traffic. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings and the site will still work.
How long we keep it
We keep quote requests for up to 24 months and purchase records for as long as the law requires. After that, we delete them.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No website or email system is completely secure, so please don’t send sensitive documents by email unless we ask for them.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to stop contacting you. Email hello@scrapcar.ca or call (403) 522-9739. We handle personal information in line with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
